This study compared people drinking the energy drink Rockstar vs a Placebo.  30 minutes after drinking the energy drink, patient’s blood pressure increased twice as much as the placebo group.  Norepinephrine, one of our stress hormones, also increased by twice as much. Wether this has any significant effect on cardiovascular risk is unknown.  As with the study on Coffee consumption mentioned earlier, moderation is likely the key.
